Gap Year Project: Thailand Experience Programme
And I kid you not!!! I am living in Wat Songpinong a small temple in a small town. I spend my mornings teaching English at a local school, afternoons teaching English to some of the monks and the evenings meditating and chanting. It is a pretty incredible experience!
To sum it up:
I am delighted by:
1) The friendliness of everyone - the smiles and courtesy!
2) The beauty of the temple area - set in woods, with buffalo, loads of dogs, and golden Buddha images everywhere.
3) The young monks who are so friendly and helpful.
4) The old women who can't speak a word of English but always laugh and offer words of wisdom in Thai.
5) The children at the school who are so respectful and well behaved!!
My challenges are:
1) Sleeping on a cold hard floor where I get bitten regularly by ants, fleas and mosquitoes! 2) Seeing my favourite stray dogs ("no name" and her 5 young puppies) scrounge around for food and affection which is never offered by the locals but warmly received. They are SO gorgeous but so thin :-(
3) Remaining non-judgemental of the Rayban wearing chief monk with the mobile phone permanently attached to his ear!!
