Name: Amber Gerrard
Programme:  Texas Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation
Dates: March to June

How did you feel before you joined the programme?

I was nervous about the work I would undertake but the information provided by Real Gap was useful and calmed my nerves! I was a bit worried about living in America on my own but I was reassured by them.

What was the accommodation like?
I lived in a trailor! But it was actually really big and spacious with a computer and TV.

What did you think of the programme?
I really enjoyed it, it was harder work than I expected but we were given a lot of responsibility and thrown straight into working with the animals! Texas itself is AMAZING, I am going to visit it again purely for sightseeing, I met cowboys and ranch owners and all kinds of people!

My most memorable part of my trip would be either driving down this endless road with the sun setting and my favourite band blaring out the stereo or finding this natural lake that was incredibly beautiful and just sitting there in the sun with my feet in the water!

How have you benefited from your experience? How have you changed?
It gave me more patience and the ability to put things into perspective. I really am grateful for the fact it helped me sort my life out.

What advice could you offer to someone considering this project?
Be prepared to deal with killer jet lag, a lot of hard work but to meet some truly awesome people!
