America Wolf Sanctuary Volunteer
Project Location Ramah, New Mexico (approx. 2.5 hrs from Albuquerque).
The Wolf Sanctuary is located approximately 2.5 hours from Albuquerque New Mexico, USA. Ideally located off of Rt. 53, a highway with many well-known national landmarks such as El Malpais, El Morro National Monument, Banderas Volcano and Ice Caves, Zuni Pueblo, as well as other attractions.
There are also many scenic places for hiking, biking, and exploring. In such an isolated area, much of the land has been left untouched by humans in many decades, so there is much to be explored and enjoyed. With plenty of sights to see on in your time off you may want to consider extra travel before or after your project to take in the scenery in this gorgeous Southwestern state.
The Wolf Sanctuary is located in a lovely mountain town. The 80-acre sanctuary sits amid ponderosa, pinion and juniper trees at 7,500 feet above sea level. As it is located in the high desert, summers temperatures reach the mid 90's, with winter nights dipping to 0 to -10 degree Fahrenheit. Summers are warm but the temperature is never unbearable. Winter tends to make the wolves more energetic!
Weekend Travel The sanctuary is located in a rural area and there is not a local bus service available. You will need to plan on spending quiet evenings at the sanctuary unless there is a group outing planned. You will have two days off each week. During these days off you can stay onsite or you can opt to do some independent travel. Volunteers generally organise activities together during their time in New Mexico.
You could possibly discuss trips to the local big cities of Albuquerque, Flagstaff or even some of the National Parks in the area. You will have plenty of time to relax and unwind.
Getting There You will need to arrange your flights to Albuquerque International Airport.
