Goa Programme, India
What was your motivation to take a gap break?
Started at a university straight from sixth form but discovered it really wasn't for me, wanted to take some time out and see the world and experience something totally different.
How did you feel before you joined the programme?
Intrigued, did some research on the internet and this programme seemed to fit the bill on what I wanted to do.
How did Real Gap assist you? How did they compare with your expectations?
Really helpful! It was brilliant to be able to have a contact number to ring before the trip and know who you were speaking to. Being able to ask questions to the real gap guys who had already done it was really useful and they gave some really handy tips on things to take!
What was the accommodation like?
Varied! Although it was great to experience everything!! From sleeping on the floor in a stone hut in an India village to a dormitory with a full working shower!
What did you think of the programme?
One of the best things I have ever done! An adventure I will remember forever…
What was the most memorable moment of your trip?
Trekking through the jungle on a three day hike was pretty tough but I think I surprised myself in what I was capable of! Working in our volunteer placements was wonderful for me, being able to teach the children songs while they copy the actions was a lot of fun!
Did your programme and destination meet your expectations? Any anecdotes?
I think I wasn't really sure what to expect, I went with a total open mind ready to just embrace everything. The trip was amazing and definitely exceeded my expectations!
What do you feel you accomplished during your programme?
Life experience. Being able to adapt to different situations with ease.
How have you benefited from your experience? How have you changed?
Just such an eye opener to the world and appreciating different cultures and lifestyles.
What advice could you offer to someone considering this programme?
Do it! I had the best 4 weeks of my life, I will go away with so many memories and friendships, sharing the experience with others just made it so wonderful.
