Asia expedition - Trans SiberianPlanes are obviously the quickest and most convenient mode of transport for an Asia expedition but the one big downside of any plane journey is that you often bypass some incredible scenery en route. An exciting alternative for an Asia expedition is to journey through the region on land by travelling on the world famous Trans Siberian Railway. The Trans Siberian follows an incredible route through Russia, Mongolia and China and is a unique way of covering huge distances on land on an Asia expedition. The Trans Siberian travels through some of the world's most remote regions, so if you really want to get away from the usual beaten track on an Asia expedition it's a great option. The Trans Siberian is extremely sociable too.

One of the most challenging countries you can visit on an Asia expedition is India. In fact there is more than enough to do in India to justify spending an entire Asia expedition there. One of Real Gap's most comprehensive and intrepid Asia expeditions is the ‘Gap Year Expedition - India' programme. This Asia expedition aims to discover the ‘real' India by travelling to fascinating parts of the country that most travellers never venture to. Two of the standout highlights of this Asia expedition are a tiger safari and also a six-day trek in the Himalayas (offering stunning views of Mount Everest). The Asia expedition in India also provides a unique insight in to Indian life with a five-week stay at an Indian village near the beautiful hill station of Darjeeling. Asia expedition - Sri Lanka
Many parts of Asia were affected by the devastating Boxing Day tsunami. Although, on the surface, the region is ‘back to normal' many lives were affected forever and there is still much that can be done to help the victims. If you would like to give something back on an Asia expedition by volunteering then why not consider getting involved with one of Real Gap's hugely rewarding Sri Lankan volunteer projects? If you volunteer in Sri Lanka on an Asia expedition you can either help to re-build houses destroyed by the tsunami or teach English to Sri Lankan school children who have had their lives - and education - massively disrupted by the tsunami.
Asia expedition - Borneo
If you would like to get involved with wildlife conservation on an Asia expedition our two programmes in the Malaysian region of Borneo are excellent opportunities. Both of Real Gap's programmes on Borneo are dedicated to caring for the region's gravely endangered orang-utan ape population. Orang-utans are the only great ape found outside of Asia and volunteers on these programmes work closely with local Iban tribes-people to try and ensure these beautiful don't become extinct.
