Gap Year BrochureAustralia House

If you plan on getting some paid work in Australia, then you'll need an Australian working holiday visa. Australia House is the home of the Australian High Commission, (or embassy), in London and it is here that your working visa application must be made. It's important to bare in mind that your application needs to be made to Australia House before you depart from the UK - it's not something that can be arranged once you get to Australia. If you book our Ultimate Aussie or Work and Play Plus programme we will apply on your behalf to Australia House before you go!

Australia House is Australia's oldest diplomatic mission abroad. Australia House these days is a much-admired famous London landmark, occupying a central position at the eastern end of the island created by Aldwych and the Strand. The Scottish architect Marshall Mackenzie and his son AGR Mackenzie designed Australia House, after they won a competition to design the building in 1812. They based their design for Australia House on Roman architectural styles while also adding in some influences from eighteenth century France. Work on Australia House began in 1913, but the First World War delayed construction. Australia House was finally officially opened by King George on 23rd August 1918. Australia House is classified as a Grade 2 building of architectural importance by English Heritage and considered one of the best examples of its type. Australia House is a major focal point on the Strand - quite a transformation for an area that was once covered by the notorious slums described by Charles Dickens in ‘Bleak House.'

Since its opening, Australia House has become the first port of call for the thousands of Britons over the years wanting to make a new start Down Under, and also to the millions of Britons simply wanting to visit Australia. It also, of course, serves as a home from home for Australians visiting the UK.

Although Australia House is worth a visit merely for its architectural splendour, it's not necessary these days to make your way to London and queue for hours for a visa. The working holiday visa application process can be quite lengthy, with plenty of form-filling etc. We have experience of dealing with Australia House, we know the process inside out and take out the hassle of dealing directly with Australia House.
