Australia Koala Sanctuary Volunteer
The Sanctuary is located in a remote suburb of Brisbane in Southern Queensland, Australia.
Weather Remember that Australia experiences opposite seasons to the UK, so they are in the height of their summer during our cold winter!
Brisbane has a sub-tropical climate, with hot and humid summers and mild, dry winters. Throughout summer the average temperature is around 30 degrees but some days will get extremely hot so remember your sunscreen! During winter, most days are sunny with average temperatures of around 15 degrees. Most rain falls between November and February, during the height of summer.
Free Time During your morning break, lunch break and at the end of the working day you are free to explore the sanctuary at your leisure.
The hostel that you will be staying in is located in the bustling city of Brisbane so you will never be short of things to do in your free time. Visit museums, botanic gardens, and art galleries, go shopping and in the evenings try out the many restaurants, bars and clubs. The place to be to experience true Brisbane nightlife is north of the river in Fortitude Valley where you will find thriving clubs, bars and restaurants.
If you want to venture slightly further a field and have a relaxing day off at the beach, head towards either Moreton Bay or North Stradbroke, which are both beautiful sandy beaches easily accessible from Brisbane. From Brisbane you are also in the perfect position to travel to different areas along the East Coast.
Getting There You will need to arrange your flights to Brisbane airport to arrive on the Saturday that your programme starts. On arrival at the airport you will be required to take a transfer by train which will take you about 2 blocks away from your hostel.
Once you have settled into your hostel, your first day at the sanctuary will be on Monday, where you will need to arrive by 8:30 am for your orientation. Each day that you work at the sanctuary you will need to get the bus to the sanctuary, which takes around 30 minutes.
