Programme Outline

Thursday
You will be met at Brisbane airport in the morning and taken back to a great backpackers hostel to catch up on sleep and chill out!

Our Aussie representative will take you to the Department of Immigration to sort our your visa, to the bank to open an account and to the Medicare Office for your Reciprocal Health Care Card (which we hope you will never have to use!). It’s also a good chance to have a look around Brisbane and soak up your new Aussie surroundings!

Friday – Sunday
Relax and explore Brisbane! The hostel is right in the city centre and the friendly staff there can arrange loads of trips and activities for you during your stay.

Monday
Now its time to get stuck in and experience the real Aussie outback! Transport from Brisbane to the training ranch is included in the programme fee and you will arrive just in time for lunch. After lunch there will be a short paperwork session and then you will be taken into the local town to do a spot of shopping. It’s great chance to purchase work clothes such as hats, boots, and shirts.

In the afternoon you will get stuck into the training – often starting with quad biking, or perhaps a leisurely horse ride where you could see kangaroos, wallabies and koalas in the wild!

Tuesday to Friday
The fun yet challenging training begins! You will learn masses of useful information that will get you up to speed to become a real Aussie Jackaroo.

Main areas covered include:

  • Horse and cattle work
  • Tractor work
  • Motor biking quad biking
  • Fencing
  • Chain saw use

Your days will start early with a quick breakfast before heading up to the farm to start training. After a morning of various activities you will break for lunch in a stunning location nearby where you will have the chance to refuel and cool off in the air conditioned house or you may prefer a refreshing jump into the local lake! This is also your opportunity to let the trainers know your job preferences so we can do our best to place you into your ideal job!

Saturday
In the morning you will head off to travel to your first work placement, or, if you decide to defer the hard work then your travels around Oz will begin!
