Australia Learn to Sail

Orientation

Upon your arrival at the marina, you will receive a full briefing about the adventure ahead of you. This will include an explanation of the course that you have chosen, what is involved and what you will learn, as well as an in-depth safety briefing. You will have the opportunity throughout the course to ask as many as questions as you may have, but this is a good chance to ensure you are happy and confident before you set sail!

Accommodation and Meals

Throughout the duration of your six-day/five-night course you will live aboard the sailing vessel on which you will learn. The yacht sleeps a maximum of six students and one skipper, and you will be the crew! You will be in shared cabins with shared bathrooms facilities and linen will be provided.

On the 23-day/23-night course, your first six days/five nights you will be onboard your sailing vessel. During your time when you are not on one of the scheduled two-day/two-night trips, your accommodation will be in Airlie Beach, where you will stay in shared backpacker accommodation (six nights).

Three meals per day will be prepared for you, (Breakfast x 16, Lunch x 12, Evening meals x 17 for the 23 day course) usually consisting of fresh, local produce including a traditional Aussie BBQ, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Alcohol is not available to buy onboard so we recommend that you purchase some in Airlie beach to take onboard should you wish to have a cold beer or glass of wine in the evening!

Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements in advance.

Free Time

For your time onboard, the only free time that you will really have is in the evenings after dinner when you can relax in your cabin or sit up on deck, enjoying a drink and a clear view of the stars.

Before and after your course there is so much for you to do along the East Coast. But before you venture off why not spend some time in Airlie Beach chilling out and partying!

There is lots that you can do in Airlie Beach including rainforest trips, waterfalls and swimming holes, skydiving, parasailing, horse riding, fishing, sea kayaking, bush walking and tropical island visits. The town benefits from a manmade tropical lagoon, which you can enjoy for free 24 hours a day, all year round. In the evening the town comes to life and there are loads of bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs for you to enjoy.

Project Age Limit

Minimum age 18 years, maximum age dependant on potential participants health.

Project Support

Throughout your stay you will have the support and guidance of your local project coordinator and team. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your stay. In addition you will have access to a 24 hour emergency contact number so you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.
