Australia Tall Ship Sailing
The Whitsundays This sailing trip will take you around the Whitsunday Islands, which are part of the Cumberland Group, the largest group of Coastal Islands on the Australian Coast. There are a total of 74 islands (although you probably won’t get around them all!) and a massive benefit is that they are located in the centre of the stunning Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, a must-see for all that visit Australia’s East Coast!
The Whitsunday group alone has a total of 22 islands, all named by Captain Cook on his voyage on the Endeavour in 1770. The islands remain relatively unspoilt with only eight of them now with resort style developments, namely Daydream, Hamilton, Hayman, South Molle, Long, Hook and Lindeman. All islands are truly magnificent and offer an abundance of colourful sights and scenes!
The Whitsundays are the perfect place for you to have a sailing experience, as the conditions are terrific! The consistent South Easterly breezes and calm water anchorages that are situated among the islands make overnight stopovers especially relaxing and provide you with a comfortable nights sleep.
Marine Life From July to September the Whitsundays are visited by the magnificent Humpback Whales! While spotting a Humpback Whale during this time is an amazing experience you will not miss out during other times of the year as marine life is there for you to enjoy all year round, including turtles, dolphins, manta ray, dugong, plus hundreds of different reef fish.
Free Time Before or after your trip there is so much for you to do either travelling up and down the East Coast. But before you venture off why not spend some time in Airlie Beach chilling out and partying!
There is lots that you can do in Airlie Beach including rainforest trips, waterfalls & swimming holes, skydiving, parasailing, horse riding, fishing, sea kayaking, bush walking and tropical island visits. The town benefits from a manmade tropical lagoon, which you can enjoy for free 24 hours a day, all year round. In the evening the town comes to life and there are loads of bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs for you to enjoy.
Getting There You will need to plan your travel so that you are in Airlie Beach for the start date of your programme. There are excellent transport links throughout the East Coast and the easiest way to travel to Airlie Beach is by taking a bus from one of the main gateway cities such as Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville or Cairns.
