Programme Age Limit Minimum 18 years, maximum decided on potential participants health.
The Sailing Programme Joining our Tall Ship sailing trip is ideal for those wanting to take a relaxing break from their busy travels along the East Coast and for those who want to experience the outstanding Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef. There will be plenty of time for you to snorkel the amazing coral reefs that are teaming with marine life, visit beaches including the beautiful Whitehaven Beach with its 6kms of pure white sand and crystal clear water, go for guided island walks to spectacular lookouts, swim in the sea or just relax! While on anchor, why not try the tarzan rope swing or lay in the bow net enjoying an icy cold drink from the bar!
Your experience of the Whitsundays will take place over 6 memorable days of exploring the area aboard a 105 year old Tall Ship. With 10 sails and 5500 square feet of sail area your ship will provide you with an authentic sailing adventure! As a fully Eco Certified operator, your crew can provide interpretive talks and information about the Islands, the Great Barrier Reef and the marine life, so that you can fully appreciate your surroundings.
Please note: The 6 day trip consists of two 3-day trips back to back. You will return to the Marina to re-fuel and pick up/drop off passengers. The skipper will do their best to vary the destinations in each trip but please be aware that each trip will depend on the weather and conditions and on occasions and some popular islands/routes may be re-visited.
Your involvement on board The tall ship crew would love for you to get involved in the sailing of the ship – adding more fun and team work to your experience! If you are interested in helping out on board, the crew will be happy to spend time with you covering the sailing basics. Guests are welcome to assist "Hall Yard" and raise the massive sails ready to make the most of the prevailing Whitsunday breezes. If you would prefer to just sit back, relax and soak up the sun this is also absolutely fine!
Scuba Diving Scuba Diving will be made available through a dive company that you will meet up with during the trip. It is not a requirement for you to already be a certified diver as introductory dives are available (subject to the completion of a medical questionnaire). Diving sites will be on the Fringing Coral Reefs that extend from Hayman Island or Hook Island. Your dive will last approximately 25 to 30 minutes, providing you with enough time to explore the marine wonderland.
Please Note: We cannot guarantee that diving will be available due to occasional strong winds or bad weather. Any dives taken will be at your own expense.
Snorkelling Throughout your days sailing there will be lots of opportunities to stop and explore the waters and to snorkel you do not need any previous experience. The ships crew will provide you with an introduction to snorkelling and give you any advice you may need. They will then stand by and watch while you snorkel to ensure that guests are safe and provide any advice or assistance you need while snorkelling. The snorkelling locations are well protected, and generally they are relatively close to the beaches. While snorkelling you can expect to see a large variety of tropical fish, colourful soft corals, manta rays, and maybe even the occasional turtle.
Mask and snorkels will be provided on board but for those who need a prescription lens, these can be hired at a local dive store.
Project Support Throughout your sailing trip you will have the support and guidance of the crew on board. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your stay. In addition you will have access to a 24 hour emergency contact number so you con contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.
Project Orientation On your first day you will need to plan to arrive at the office in Airlie Beach in sufficient time for a tour briefing before you set sail.
