Project Age Limit
Minimum age 18, maximum decided on potential participant’s health

Skills Requirement
The programme is open to people of all abilities, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or even advanced surfer.

Lessons
Lessons take place each morning under the guidance and supervision of qualified surf instructors and guides. The lessons are designed to optimise your surf experience on two levels: firstly, you will learn how to be at the right spot at the right time; and secondly, your instructor will work on your fundamental surfing skills, including balance, stance and feet positioning. In order to make sure you get the most from each lesson, groups are limited to a maximum of 5 participants.

Surf Groups
The Rip Curl School of Surf picks up the beginner surfers each morning; they have qualified level-1 surf coaches, who specialise in giving the beginners instruction in a safe, learner-friendly environment. They use soft boards and are briefed on safe practices in the surf.

The intermediate group is taken to the place where the best conditions are on that day. The group are guided by Alex (the camp’s qualified adventure guide) and one of the other local surf guides. This group receives more intensive lessons in advanced surfing technique, training for the surf and understanding surf conditions.

Advanced surfers travel with the intermediate group and are directed to more challenging waves, near to where the intermediate group are surfing.

You don’t need to be a beginner to enjoy the lessons and après surf. The Surf Camp is open to advanced and intermediate surfers, with plenty of beaches and waves of all levels for you to enjoy. In fact, if you’re travelling with a friend and don’t want to surf yourself, we have an extra-soothing programme available for you.

Massages and Yoga Lessons
For each week of your stay, you’ll have 2 sports massages included as part of your programme. These are designed to take all of the tension (if you could possibly have any in this place!) away and to further the” healthy body and mind” ethos of the retreat. The massages take a more holistic approach and include therapies to treat any injuries or particular needs you have at the time.

The traditional Balinese massages are performed by one of the local massage therapists and are available on request. You can also have a therapeutic massage (injury treatments, lymph drainage etc), which will be performed by the trained health therapist.

You also have 3 yoga sessions for each week you stay at the camp. These help to keep you fresh and flexible for your surf lessons. If you wish to complete more yoga lessons, these can be included locally at an additional cost of 60 Euros for a 3-session package.

Bali Cultural Trip
A cultural trip is included in the programme to make sure you see the best of what Bali has to offer. This includes a visit to Ubud (the cultural and fine art capital of Bali), Tanah Lot (a beautiful temple situated on a rock offshore) and some small market villages along the way. The highlights of the trip are:

  • The Monkey Forest (Ubud)
  • The Elephant Cave (Ubud)
  • Sunset at Tanah Lot Temple

At various arts and crafts markets/villages authentic goods can be purchased from the local artists or traders. Lunch is taken in Ubud where there are a variety of excellent cafes and restaurants to choose from. Here, your time is your own, so you can explore and find the best things to do and the nicest restaurants to eat. The trip finishes with a sunset beer at Tanah Lot looking out over the ocean, before you return to the retreat where dinner will be waiting for you.

Accommodation and Meals
All accommodation is included. You will stay in luxurious bungalows located close to the beach. Each of the bungalows has air conditioning, deluxe beds and unique outdoor-style bathrooms. Rooms are arranged on a single and twin/double basis, though some rooms will accommodate up to 4 people.

Two meals a day (buffet breakfast and evening meal) are also included during your stay. Using organic, free-range and locally produced ingredients, the meals are designed to give you the healthiest and well-balanced diet your body needs. The included meals have a good variety and cater to a number of different diets. Breakfast is served at 10.30am each day and will consist of a large buffet. Whilst you will need to cater for your own lunch, many participants do not find it necessary to eat lunch and an evening meal.

Programme Support
Throughout your programme, you will have the support and supervision of all the camp staff, including the surf instructors/guides and the retreat management. All are experienced and are able to provide you with all the instructional and safety support necessary on a programme like this. They will also provide you with competent assistance and help you with any questions or advice you may need during your stay.  The accommodation staff will be on hand throughout the day and the manager will be available to you 24 hours a day if you have any serious problems or emergencies.

In addition, we will provide you with a 24 hour emergency contact number before you depart, so that you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.

Orientation

At the start of your programme you will receive an informal orientation, to go alongside your pre-departure handbook. This orientation will be conducted by our programme coordinator and will cover the following areas:

  • Camp services and programme structure
  • Bali: An outline of the local amenities, places of interest and what to do in your free time.
  • Safety: How to keep safe in the local area and how to ensure everyone’s safety whilst on the programme.
  • Questions/Answers Session: An opportunity for you to ask any further questions.
