Bolivia Care For Vulnerable Children

Trip code: BOOV

Our volunteers make a real contribution towards enriching lives of the vulnerable children in the city of Sucre. The children may be a variety of different ages and have either been abandoned and taken in off the streets in the hope of being adopted, or whose parents work all hours and do not have any time to spend with their children. Many of the children you will spend your time with have never had a "real" childhood or experienced loving, caring, stable relationships.

This rewarding project includes everything you need plus you have a great opportunity to learn and improve your Spanish!

Bolivia Orphanage Volunteers

This project is located in the beautiful and lively colonial city of Sucre; one of the principal cities in Bolivia. The city and surrounding villages have sizable indigenous populations that maintain their customs and colourful dress, which adds to the charm of this unique and diverse city- a fantastic place to volunteer.

Bolivia

Sandwiched between Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Chile, and straddling the Andes, Bolivia is known as the "Tibet of the Americas" due to its altitude and stunning scenery.

About twice the size of Spain, Bolivia encapsulates nearly every possible climate and terrain from the snow capped peaks of over 21,000 feet, to the to the semi-tropical lowlands, through to the steaming jungles of the Amazon Basin. The country became landlocked in 1880 during the “Pacific War” when it lost its seacoast to Chile. Offsetting this one missing element is Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, boasting crystal blue waters, reed boats and islands known for pre-Colombian ruins.

Besides great scenery, you have the opportunity to see various exotic birds, plants, insects, and animals due to Bolivia's relatively sparse population, lack of development and diverse geography.

Time
Bolivia time is four hours behind GMT.

Getting There

You will need to arrange your flights to La Paz. We will arrange one night in a hotel upon your arrival in Bolivia and then your one-way internal flight to Sucre the following day. The return flight is not included. If you want to arrange your return, please speak to our onsite staff in Sucre who will arrange it for you and you will pay them directly.

The flight to Sucre takes approximately 45 minutes. Your host family will be waiting for you with a sign in the arrivals lounge. Please look carefully as there may be several people waiting for other passengers! Your hosts will then transport you to your accommodation and give you a brief tour. Enjoy!

Climate

The climate is largely temperate, though it can get very cold at night. The rainy season is November to March (Bolivia’s summer), which means this is also the hottest time with temperatures averaging 30 degrees Celsius, though they can get much higher. The winter months are dry and temperatures average 20 degrees, though they can dip to freezing in mountain areas.
