Bolivia Care For Vulnerable Children

Trip code: BOOV

Our volunteers make a real contribution towards enriching lives of the vulnerable children in the city of Sucre. The children may be a variety of different ages and have either been abandoned and taken in off the streets in the hope of being adopted, or whose parents work all hours and do not have any time to spend with their children. Many of the children you will spend your time with have never had a "real" childhood or experienced loving, caring, stable relationships.

This rewarding project includes everything you need plus you have a great opportunity to learn and improve your Spanish!

Orientation

On the first day of the project, you will be given an extensive orientation to familiarise you with your new surroundings. You will be informed of local customs, and how to get around using public transport. A project co-ordinator will also meet you to explain your role as a volunteer.

The orientation will cover all the relevant information about your project, including safety issues. An individual timetable will be worked out for you based on how much time you want to commit to volunteering.

Accommodation and Meals

Our volunteer apartment is located eight blocks from the volunteer project; a 20 minute walk, or a short bus ride away. Living here gives volunteers the opportunity to live independently and affords them the ability to come and go as they please.

You will share a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room with other volunteers. Please note meals are not included during your stay in the apartment. Usually volunteers take it in turns to cook meals or simply eat out at local restaurants, which are very cheap by western standards. A standard three course meal can cost as little as $1-2 for the money-conscious volunteer! A nearby host family live on the same street, and provide a laundry service for the duration of your stay.

Free time

Free time is during the evenings and on the weekends. During this time you can take excursions to other parts of the country, or stay in town to get to know the community more intimately. Our on-site co-ordinator and language school director, is a fantastic host and will organise any tours or excursions for you at a discount. Alternatively you can travel independently with other volunteers from this project or other projects in Sucre.

Project Age Limit

Minimum 17 years, maximum dependent upon individual participant’s health.

Project Requirements

All volunteers need to have some knowledge of the Spanish language before starting their volunteer work, not only to get the most out of the project, but also to get around and integrate with the locals. If you do not already speak Spanish it is strongly recommended you take our language course prior to the start of the programme. These are available for 2 or 4 weeks, and are easily combined with the project.
