The Guarderia is a day care centre that works Monday to Friday and it is located just outside of Sucre in a very poor village. The children stay at the centre while their parents go out to work. Their mothers often make hand made souvenirs and the fathers go out to the city to find informal work. The money assigned by the government is very low, and they need all the help they can get
The kids at this nursery are absolutely adorable!
On my first visit there I was greeted straight away with HOLA TIA and met with all of them hugging me, they aren’t shy at all and all they want is your love and attention.
There are about 20 children, all under 6 years old. They are easily pleased with a simple paper aeroplane or just a cuddle, they are very lively and energetic and they want you to get involved all the time. This is a physical job and great fun!
The staff are really lovely as well, I am given huge helpings at lunch and they always ask if I want more. My Spanish isn’t great but they don’t find it a problem, we can still communicate.
The nursery focuses on discipline and teaching the kids hygiene and manners, they have to wash their hands before eating and they have to say “Gracias Tia” after eating.
The nursery does need the help, whether it is just watching the children for a while or helping with the puzzles and games, everything counts.
It is a poor area and the kids do have little but they are really happy. Come and make a difference and get involved. I´m having a great time and am really glad I came.
