Botswana Okavango Wildlife and Adventure
The beauty of this project lies in getting completely off the beaten track and experiencing the pure wilderness of northern Botswana. However, like other remaining wilderness areas across the globe, volunteers are needed to assist in conserving and maintaining this incredible environment.
As a volunteer you will be part of some very exciting projects running on the Okavango River system, the first of its kind to be introduced within Botswana.
The Volunteer ProjectAs a volunteer on this project, you will be part of some very exciting projects running on the Okavango River system, which remains one of the most pristine wild areas in Africa.
In these areas you will have access to observe and study some of Africa’s giants – elephants, hippos, crocodiles and leopards.
You will join in to assist community projects in the village of Sepopa. You will come out of Botswana with a rounded sense of its cultural diversity, its wildlife and its valuable ecosystems.
Your work will include the following exciting projects:
- Monitoring crocodile populations on the Okavango
- Hippo/Human Conflict - Help to develop new strategies in damage limitation between the two species.
- Elephant Migration Routes - You will be among the first people to record elephant movements on the Okavango.
- Sepopa Community Projects - In and around the village there are a number of highly important community projects running, which you will be actively involved in.
- Project Excursions - In addition to these regular projects, our expert team of local guides will take you to some of the other places that make Botswana so special
Project LocationThe volunteer camp is based on the west banks of the Okavango River, roughly 300km from the regional capital, Maun. It is situated close to the rural African village of Sepopa, which is the gateway to the river.
Accommodation and mealsYou'll stay at a campsite within a beautiful fishing lodge directly on the Okavango River. The camp has a kitchen, single sex twin share large tents.
You will receive three meals a day. This is a ‘hands on’ project – volunteers will take it in turns to assist in cooking the evening meal, which will be traditionally cooked on fires
