Orientation
You will be collected from Salvador Airport (‘Dois de Julho’) by our on-site co-ordinator and will be transported to the boat harbour for travel to Cairu. Depending on the time of your arrival you will be taken to a guesthouse in Salvador, where you will stay overnight for a small fee. The following morning you will be collected and accompanied to Cairu by bus and boat. Once in Cairu you will receive a full orientation about the project, the local area and the culture and customs.
Accommodation and Meals
During your stay, you will live with a local host family, allowing you to experience the Brazilian way of life. Accommodation may be in single or double rooms and breakfast and dinner are provided. Lunch is arranged in local restaurants.
You will find the facilities at your host family accommodation similar to those found at home. Facilities will include: shower/bath, laundry once a week as part of the family laundry, use of the telephone (as agreed with the host family) and access to common living areas. Guests are expected to be respectful of families and their homes at all times.
Free Time
With free time at the weekends this is the perfect opportunity to explore these amazing islands. Once in Cairu County, you will have many different options for your free weekends, from remote beaches and traditional fishermen communities (Garapuá and Pratigi), to structured communities with an intense night life (Morro de Sao Paulo and Boipeba), you will always find somewhere interesting to stay.
There are plenty of restaurants and hotels/guesthouses for you to choose from if you wish to stay away at the weekend. The onsite staff will be able to help you to organise your weekend. You should allow around £15 per day for food and accommodation at weekends and a little extra for any activities you may wish to do.

Throughout your time in Salvador you will have the support and guidance of a team of project co-ordinators based in the area. They will provide you with competent assistance and help you with any questions or advice you may need during your stay.
The project staff will be on hand throughout the day to ensure your comfort and safety. In addition, we will provide you with a 24-hour emergency contact number before you depart, so that you can contact one of our office staff at any time should you need to.
