Brazil Floating School and Capoeira
The 48m2 floating school is in the process of being built and your help is needed to complete this structure so that it can tour the Islands and bring education to all. At present the it is moored in Cairu.
Volunteer RoleIn the mornings you will be teaching English to young adults from Tinhare on the floating structure. You will be teaching English in a fun and interactive way to get the children involved and enthusiastic about education. Learning English is important to the community as there is a lot of potential for tourists to visit this area and therefore for them to earn a living.
After lunch, you will be involved in construction activities for the floating school. The work is being done in stages and so there are various activities to get involved in depending on which stage of the building process the structure is at.
Activities can include building walls, windows, bathrooms, equipping the boat with solar energy facilites and any other work required at the time. All materials will be provided by the project and you will be given any training required. Previous building experience is not essential, just a positive attitude and lots of enthusiasm!
Capoeira ClassesIn the evenings you can unwind and learn the art of Capoeira. Capoeira is a unique mix of dance and martial art of Afro-Brazilian origin, combining agile dance moves with unarmed combat techniques. Capoeira has a fascinating history stretching back 500 years.
