Rio de Janeiro

Rio, called ‘Cidade Maravilhosa’ (‘Marvellous City’) by its residents, is Brazil’s second largest city and its most famous. The city is sandwiched between the sea and the jungle-covered mountains, giving it the most beautiful setting, and with the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Rio is certainly a feast for the eyes.

The most famous landmarks, known the world over, are the Corcovado – the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer that looms over the city and also Sugar Loaf Mountain, both of which offer spectacular views of the city as it sprawls out to the North and South along the coast.

Although it isn’t known for it, Rio also has a great architectural heritage hidden amongst all the newly built skyscrapers – discovering it is half the fun of exploring the city.

Free Time
The people of Rio pride themselves on the fact that their city has so much to keep visitors busy. As you have 3 hours of language classes a day, you’ll have plenty of time to get out and explore the city whilst practicing the lingo as you go.

Get the cable car up Sugar Loaf Mountain or hitch a ride up to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer, both providing amazing views out over the city, the beaches and the Atlantic. The beaches themselves are great for relaxing, swimming or playing volleyball and football.

The weekends are for you to spend as you wish and are a good opportunity for you to head a bit further out of the city to explore the surrounding area. The beaches in either direction along the coast are definitely worth exploring- both beautiful and deserted!

Getting There
You will need to organise your flights to the International airport of Rio, where you will be met and transferred to your accommodation.
