If you love tennis and are looking to volunteer, then this project is perfect for you. On this programme you’ll travel to Brazil and help to coach tennis to disabled players and underprivileged children from the nearby favelas. Combining this with learning Portuguese in the world’s most beautiful city, this is a full on cultural and sporting gap experience!
Volunteer Role
This programme is divided up into two parts: the first is a language and cultural experience, where you will study Portuguese in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In the second part you will change location to Belo Horizonte, where you will utilise your tennis skills and coach this sport to local children and disabled players. During your project you’ll have the opportunity to take part in the following programme activities:
- Assist current coaches and run your own classes – through skill development, coordination skills, game preparation and training drills
- Help in the organization of training sessions and competitions
- Umpire short games for children at the project and in the local favelas
- Give advice and lessons on tactics
- Teach new sports exercises and provide advice on health issues and requirements
- You have a lot of flexibility as a volunteer to coach tennis in the way you see fit. The important thing is to remain confident and to keep your sessions fun!
