Bushman Clinic and Medical Project Namibia
During this project, you will spend your time at a clinic learning the basic nursing skills that will be required for your last two weeks at the remote bushman clinic in rural Namibia. In addition you will also have the rare and exciting opportunity to work with the animals of Africa and care for them in your spare time, assisting in their rehabilitation and creating a large, natural habitat for them in which to live.
Volunteer RoleFirst you'll spend 14 nights at a Wildlife Sanctuary currently home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, baby baboons, a warthog, mongoose and others!
You will be working with the wildlife and taking trips into Windhoek to assist in a large private Medical Practice, whilst receiving training to ensure you are ready for work at the Bushman Clinic. Once the project team are happy that you are ready, you will be moved to where you will spend around 14 days assisting the nurse at a very basic clinic for bushman people.
If you choose to volunteer for 8 weeks, you will spend your final 4 weeks of this programme back in Windhoek at the Sanctuary, working with both the wildlife and also at the Medical Practice on a daily basis. Your full project itinerary can be discussed upon arrival and organised with your programme coordinator around the medical clinic’s work schedule and the demands of the sanctuary.
LocationThe first part of the programme is based just 38km East of Windhoek and the Bushman Clinic for the second part is in Epikuro, Namibia.
Accommodation and MealsFor the first part of your programme you will be staying at the Wildlife Sanctuary in clean, comfortable but basic accommodation, sharing with two other volunteers. There is also some private accommodation for any couples that may wish to share, depending on availability. During your stay at the Wildlife Sanctuary, you will receive 3 meals a day.
While volunteering at the Bushman Clinic your accommodation will be at the main nurses home in Epikuro. You will be staying in a volunteer house that is shared with Anna, the project nurse. This accommodation is very basic but clean and you will be in a room that sleeps 2-3 people. You will receive 3 meals each day.
