Namibia

Namibia is known for its contrasting landscapes. The desolate Namib Desert is said to be the oldest in the world, with its high dunes and awe-inspiring sense of space.

The central plateau, with its thorn bush savannah and rugged mountains, rising abruptly from the plains, gives way to the majestic Fishriver Canyon in the south.

In the north of the country, landscapes range from dense bush and open plains of the great Etosha Pan, to woodland savannah and lush vegetation. Dinosaur footprints preserved in sandstone, prehistoric rock art, the ancient fossil plant, Welwitschia mirabilis, all bare witness to the timelessness of this country.

Free Time
During your project, you will have a few hours each day to relax. In Windhoek, weekends can be spent helping out at the sanctuary, helping to take care of the animals, feeding them and cleaning out their enclosures, with more free time on Sundays. At the clinic, you could spend the weekends playing games with the local people or just relaxing around the house.

Please note that while you are on the Bushman clinic project and staying with the nurse, the region of the clinic is not safe to go out in at night and you will have to get the nurse to go with you if you need to go anywhere.

After all your hard work at the project and once it has finished, you will be driven back to the airport, where you can either fly home or take part in an amazing tour of Namibia and the stunning desert dunes, and even travel through its other surrounding countries – an opportunity not to be missed! These tours can last for anything from 3 days to 30 or more, so please ask the Africa team for further information.

Getting There
You will need to fly to Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek where you will be met by our African coordinators and transferred to the project. Here you will receive an introduction and orientation before beginning your programme. After your project, you will depart from Windhoek Airport.
