Camp Canada Counsellor Programme
Canada Spanning six time zones and covering 3,855,101 square miles, Canada is a country of inevitable variety and endless wonder. It shares many of the cosmopolitan delights of its neighbour the USA, though it retains a stronger European culture; many of its inhabitants speak French as their first language and its Head of State is Queen Elizabeth II.
Its wild and diverse scenery makes it a haven for adventure sports and a mecca for wildlife enthusiasts, who are drawn to its mountains, lakes, snow and sun. Despite its attractions, large chunks of Canada remain unspoilt and undeveloped; meaning an exploration of the land is a true adventure and a real chance to escape.
British Colombia/ Ontario British Colombia is the westernmost province of Canada with a 27,000 km coastline along the Pacific Ocean. As a whole BC is famous for its natural beauty and has a total of seven spectacular National Parks, ripe for exploration! The province capital is the city of Victoria, which is situated on Vancouver Island, just off the coast of the provinces largest city, Vancouver.
Ontario is located in east central Canada and is the largest province in the country in terms of population. The provincial capital is the city of Toronto; close to the world famous tourist attraction of Niagara Falls but the largest city in Canada is also in Ontario – Ottawa, which is also the national capital.
Climate Canada is a massive country and as you would expect, the climate is hugely varied across it. But you will still find the four distinct seasons, though they vary in intensity and arrival time from place to place. In the south of the country the climate is generally at its warmest. The coastal regions get pretty rainy in the winter, whereas the centre of the country – the prairie lands, get very little rain at any time of year.
The winters are very harsh, especially for the two-thirds of the country that get temperatures of –20 and below! The most pleasant weather is had in July and August, which tend to be the warmest months for the whole of Canada.
Free Time You will have an afternoon and one day off each week. During this day off you can stay onsite to relax, read etc or you can opt to do some independent travel.
It may be a good idea to take books and games for leisure time when you can socialise with the other counsellors.
Getting There You will need to arrange your flights to Vancouver or Ontario International Airport. You will be met here by our onsite staff and driven to the camp location.
