Programme Details
These 10, 11 or 12 week ski/ snowboard instructor training courses will enable you to:
- Transform your personal skiing or riding skills through a high quality and ‘fun’ instructor training programme
- Experience one of the best ski resorts in the world with limitless terrain, snow bowls and parks/pipes for you to discover
- Enjoy catered accommodation
- Attain CSIA Level 1 & Level 2 instructor qualifications
- Experience the post Winter Olympics 2010 resort atmosphere
You will have approximately 20 hours per week of quality instruction from Mondays-Thursdays and you will also have plenty of spare time to enjoy exploring the vast mountains. You will be taught in small groups of up to 7 or 8 people per instructor. Not only will you see a vast improvement in your own technique, you will also be given the tools to become an effective teacher and share your expertise with others. The courses provide you with an insight into the service side of the industry, how ski and snowboard schools function, plan lessons, and you will also get to shadow instructors.
The CSIA or CASI Level 1 certification will enable you to teach beginners and early intermediates in Canada or North America. The CSIA or CASI Level 2 allows you to teach at an intermediate level, and this level of certification can see you working in different countries around the world (including Australia or New Zealand over the summer).
You will also have the choice to do ONE of the following freestyle or race courses as part of the programme:
- CSIA Snowpark certification
- CASI Park Instructor
- CSCF Entry Level course
The freestyle programmes allow successful students to teach in the terrain park and these certifications will make you more employable for ski schools. The CSCF coaching course would be available to those who are not interested in freestyle terrain or manoeuvres. These courses are all approximately 3 days in length and can be run during the course. In addition, there are optional add-ons (payable locally in resort) including first aid and avalanche courses.
Many people who have completed this course at Whistler Blackcomb have returned to the resort to work as a ski or snowboard instructor, whereas others have gained employment at other resorts worldwide.
