When should I apply to work in Canada? It is best to apply as soon as possible. You must apply a minimum of 12 weeks before you plan to travel as the working holiday visa takes 8 weeks to process.
Can I specify what jobs in Canada I want to apply for? Yes-you can certainly specify the job that you would like. However, bear in mind that some jobs in Canada are very popular. We recommend that you list your job preferences and try to be flexible with job offers you receive.
Can I switch jobs whilst I am in Canada? No. You are only permitted to work for one employer and maintain a single job while you are in Canada. So when your job comes to an end, you will have up to a month to travel before departing Canada.
How long do the jobs last for? Most jobs are for 6 months. However we can find you employment for a full 12 months. Many job offers in Canada are available for the summer or winter seasons. The ski (winter) season runs from November to April. The summer season runs from May/June until October. If you are looking to travel out of season you may need to be more flexible with jobs available.
What kind of people are you looking for? We are looking for people who are outgoing, hard working, able to work the full season and who really want to experience Canada. Customer service skills are always a plus.
Can I extend my Canadian working visa? This visa is only available for a maximum of 12 months. There is no extension under the Canada Working Holiday programme.
What is the average wage in Canada? The cost of living in Canada is a lot lower and your money goes further. You will earn enough to pay for all of your living expenses like rent and food. You will need to take some savings with you just in case you decide to go travelling after the job.
Wages vary according to job type and location. In general, pay rates average between CAD$5.50 to CAD$14 per hour. This is around £2.50 to £7 per hour. For some jobs, if you work the full season you may get a bonus up to a CAD$1000 (£490).
What about accommodation? Some jobs include accommodation. If they don’t, you will be able to find shared accommodation fairly easily when you arrive.
Who goes on the Canada working holidays? Backpackers come from all around the world to do a working holiday to Canada. Most come from the UK, Europe and Australia, with a majority of people on gap years, career breaks and single working holiday experiences.
