Cape Town Medical and Community
You will be spending your time helping at a number of clinics in areas on the outskirts of Cape Town whilst also assisting in a number of excellent development schemes, aimed at the supporting the wider community.
Volunteer Role
Medical Role As a volunteer you will spend each morning in clinics that help support many sick little children who cannot get help anywhere else. This means that you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the health service in the areas that need it. This will make a profound difference to the lives of the people in the surrounding community.
Project Requirements: To apply onto this programme, you must have previous medical experience and a basic medical background. If you are planning to enter medical studies after the project, this will also be acceptable.
Community Development Role After having spent the morning at a school, you will help out the local community in different areas in the afternoon. You will rotate between the following community projects:
- Build and paint schools: As a volunteer, you will help with fixing fences and windows, rebuilding and painting.
- Education and Care Centre: This centre houses 115 children with just 7 teachers. You will assist teachers by helping to serve meals, playing with the kids, reading and with any other skills they have i.e. art, music and dancing. Volunteers with adult skills such as computer, administration, financial or training can also add huge value to the teachers lives.
- Community Development Project: The Community Development Project was started to support both orphans and children with HIV/AIDS living in and around the local area. Many mothers from the community volunteered to take care of the children belonging to this project as they feel that it is important to show their love and support to these children.
LocationYou will be helping in the Red Hill, Masiphumelele, Seawinds, Fish Hoek and Ocean View clinics and communities of Cape Town.
Accommodation and MealsYou will be staying at a fully furnished house in the beautiful seaside town of Fish Hoek with an amazing safe beach nearby and Cape Town a short drive away. You will be provided with three meals a day.
