Cape Town Sports Project
South Africa South Africa is one of the world’s best destinations for gap year or career break travel. It has so much diversity and a wealth of culture, that there is everything to attract you to this part of the world. At the same time, South Africa is a developing nation and emerging from the times of apartheid. Many people still live below the poverty line and millions of children don’t have access to adequate education.
Cape Town Cape Town is South Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. It has all of the luxuries and amenities of a world-class city mixed with a blend of African influence, which gives Cape Town a unique identity and appeal. Outside of the developed areas of the city, however, the wealthy suburbs come face to face with communities living in townships below the poverty line.
Children at the township schools do not get an education that would give them equal footing with their richer counterparts and therefore have restricted opportunities for the future. You can help to make a difference by providing your services as a sports coach and a teaching assistant in the township school from this project.
Free Time Within the Hout Bay / Llandudno area the following is available for you to do in your free time: surfing, ocean kayaking, deep sea tuna fishing, sailing, hiking, horse riding (stables next to football pitch), African drumming etc. A little further away: windsurfing, kite surfing, paragliding and hang gliding.
Volunteers can also play football for Camps Bay while they are at the project (the team train on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with games Saturday afternoons). This is available Easter to September only.
Getting There You will need to arrange your flights to arrive into Cape Town International Airport on the Friday. From here, our project representative will meet you and transfer you to your accommodation to settle in and start your orientation.
