Your Name: Charlotte McCormack (Robertson)
Project: Goa Project
Dates: 23rd October 2006 - 28th November 2006 (supposed to be 21st Nov. 06)

What did you think of the project?
I worked in the school for the mentally challenged, which had pupils with a wide range of disabilities. I'd had no experience of working with disabled children, however after my initial apprehension I felt I adjusted well to the job and enjoyed the experience which was very rewarding.

It has given me an insight into aspects of child care which I would not have experienced if I hadn't come to India.

Were the staff helpful and friendly and did they manage the project well?

I found the staff were mostly helpful and friendly and the project was managed well.  The time keeping was very relaxed and nothing is ever done at the time specified, after a while you get used to it though and just go with the flow.

What were your meals and accommodation like?
The accommodation for the first 2 weeks was staying in a couple of Hotels, although out of these 2 weeks we stayed in a tent and a traditional village for 2 nights which was good fun. Once we got to Colva the digs were like a dormitory style with a recreation room which was great to chill out in!

The food was good, especially on the trek when it was cooked by the families in the traditional villages. However after a couple of weeks of curry for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it was great to get to Colva and be able to eat a fruit salad from one of the beach cafes. Heaven!  And the Chai is lovely.

How was your experience in India?
I had a wonderful experience; India is an amazing country to visit.  I enjoyed everything from trekking through the jungle through to the volunteering part of the programme.I also made some great new friends.  Would totally recommend it.
