Week One
This week is your introduction to China, you will learn all about Chinese traditions and lifestyle and you will be able to ask as many questions as you like! This week includes the following;

  • An introduction to China, its people, culture and customs
  • Chinese language lessons
  • Chinese cooking lesson
  • 3 night stay in Beijing
  • Tour of the Great Wall and Tianamen Square with free time to explore the Forbidden City
  • Welcome Party
  • Market and temple and village visits

Week Two
Dali is a great place to relax in week two of this trip. Not only is it set in a beautiful location below Zhonge Peak (often snowcapped until June) and near Er Hai Lake, Dali is brimming full of old and new attractions, ancient buildings and indigenous Bai people. You will explore the Three Pagodas of Dali, visit the Nanzhao Grottos and stay at the famous Shaxi village. You will also get the chance to relax with a nice massage or a cold beer in a beer garden and experience the caravan horse tea route!

Week Three
This week you will have the unique opportunity to live and work with a local community. In the morning you will assist local families with farming duties, and you will spend the afternoons teaching English to children at the school. You will work for around 5 hours per day in total, and will have a meal at the school or at the farmhouse. If you wish you may also get involved with a local tree planting scheme that has been set up to protect the surrounding environment.

You do not require any previous experience, or special English or farming skills - a good sense of humour will help you interact with the locals!

Week Four
This week you will trek one of China’s holiest peaks, Jizu Shan (Chicken foot mountain).

You will depart from the lake village and climb to the top of the mountain, which will take approximately 4 hours. You will then stay at the temple at the top of the mountain, and enjoy the spectacular scenery and sunrise.

On day two you will trek for around 3 hours, enjoying the scenery and serenity of the mountain, and in the evening enjoy the chant of the local monks.

On your third day you will trek for around 5 hours until you get to the home stay village of Shangquing. This is a chance to see the farming village and the harvest of rice, corn and tobacco in the autumn or wheat and bean in the spring. The following day you will be able to rest, relax and enjoy the local area. On day five you will trek back through the mountains for around 5 hours, until you reach the village of Wase, situated on a lake. You will stay here in Wase for the evening. Day six is spent trekking for around 2 hours to Shuangland and reflecting on your trip so far! Your last day will be spent packing your belongings and then enjoying a farewell party with your new friends!
