Programme Orientation
Once you have been met and picked up from the airport, you will be taken to your accommodation to settle in. You do not get a formal orientation on your arrival, but the owner of the school will give you a tour of the Academy, showing you all the facilities and you will also be asked what forms of the martial art you would like to learn.
Also, whilst at the Academy, the co-ordinator or translators will advise you on the facilities available in Taining (closest major town) such as banks and how to get around etc. You are free to ask the translators any questions and queries that you may have.
Accommodation and Meals
All accommodation is at the academy, with most rooms boasting stunning scenic views of the surrounding area. The rooms are basic but comfortable, with one to two single beds and a simple wardrobe for clothes and personal possessions. Each student will also have a bedside table. Facilities such as showers, bathrooms and Western-style toilets are shared. Rooms typically have two occupants.
All meals are taken at the academy and are prepared by the academy cooks. Meals are made in local styles and with local produce; however, some Western dishes are served occasionally. Common ingredients include rice, vegetables and chicken. Please note that the food served is basic and will probably be very different to the Western style 'Chinese' food that you will be used to. However, the food will be nutritious and provide a good diet to support the level of training you will be doing. Various different diets can be catered for with prior notice. If you have any special requirements, contact a Travel Adviser for details.
Free Time
Martial Arts training can be physically demanding, so you’ll have plenty of free time to relax in between classes and weekends free to make the most of your environment. Most attractions are within a 40-minute drive of the academy. The local co-ordinator can help to organise trips:
- The Big Golden Lake
- The Zhaixia Canyons
- Taining Ancient City
- Cat Mountain
- Taining Geological Museum
- Bamboo forest and many more
Programme Support
During your programme, you will have the support and guidance of our local coordinator. They will provide you with competent field support and assistance, and help you with any questions or support you may need during your stay. In addition, we will provide you with a 24 hour emergency contact number before you depart, so that you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.
Skills Requirement
No experience is required; however, participants need to ensure that they are fit and able to join a programme of this nature.
