Name: Christopher Ford Gap Year Project: Conservation Volunteers Australia
I will definitely be coming back to work for CVA. I have recommended this programme to loads of people I have met along the way. It's a great way to make friends whilst helping to conserve the Australian environment. I worked on a number of projects including:
 |
Russell Mulgrave, 30km south of Cairns: Thunbergia eradication, an essential conservation project in this region that enhances wet tropics ecosystems and allows for natural regeneration of the area.
East Palmerston: Helped with cyclone relief work clearing fallen debris from nature reserves.
Barron River Gorge: Cleared walking trails in the Barron River Gorge Park. The track has suffered cyclonic damage.
Bramston Valley: Assisted local landholders who have been impacted by Cyclone Larry with a range of clean up tasks to avoid negative environmental impacts.
Hartley`s Crocodile Farm: Worked in tropical rainforest to eradicate noxious weed species which will result in increased biodiversity.
|
I enjoyed how each week of the project was different. I got to work on many of the CVA projects so my experience was really varied.
