Offset your carbon emissions!
If you watch the news, or read the newspapers, you will be aware of climate change and the concerns about the effects this will have on our planet, the people and wildlife that inhabit it.
You may have seen images of polar ice caps melting and polar bears drowning, or droughts in developing countries, causing crop failures and famines.
Every time you make a flight, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. These gases are the cause of climate change and your flights will have the biggest environmental impact of your trip.
We believe that it is each individual's responsibility to minimise their impact on the environment, to make responsible travel their concern and one way of doing this is by offsetting your carbon emissions from your flights.
This basically means that a reduction in carbon dioxide is made on your behalf, which is equal to the amount produced by your flight, effectively repairing the damage your flights do to the climate and therefore getting your ethical travel off to a great start!
We have partnered with Climate Care to help you to do this, as they will offset your carbon emissions for you, through a range of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. These projects often benefit communities around the world, as well as combating climate change and include:
- Introducing energy efficient stoves to the homes of some of the poorest communities in Honduras
- Restoring rainforests in Uganda
- Replacing diesel pumps with human-powered pumps to irrigate crops in India
- Installing energy efficient lighting in low-income households in South Africa
The below calculator enables you to enter your flight details to work out the total emissions from your flights and the amount that you will need to contribute to offset these. When you click the 'calculate' button you will be redirected to the Climate Care website and given the option to pay to offset your emmisions if you would like to.
