Costa Rica
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica is one of the smaller countries in the region but has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army.

This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with National Parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, with the exception of New Zealand.

Weather
It is important to take into consideration that the dry season is from January to May, and the rainy season is from May to November (December is a transition month). However the project is open all year round.

Free Time
Option A

You will have one day off per week, which can be negotiated with the centre’s administration. It is possible to use the telephone with a telephone card and to use the Internet during your day off, or you can go to Cañas to use the facilities there.

The nearby communities of Cañas and Liberia have all the services and comforts that you can enjoy during your day off. Other nearby protected areas that you may be interested in visiting during your day off are: The Heliconias, Volcano Tenorio National Park, Palo Verde National Park and Lomas de Barbudal Wildlife Refuge.

Option B
You will have one day off per week, which can be negotiated with the centre’s administration. It is possible to use the telephone with a telephone card and to use the Internet during your day off, or you can go to Arenal to use the facilities there.

Some activities you could be involved with include:

  • Visiting Arenal Volcano
  • A Canopy tour
  • Horseback riding
  • Bungee jumping
  • Visiting Manuel Antonio – one of Costa Rica’s most impressive beaches

Getting there
