Programme Location

The orphanages and homes are located in different neighborhoods in San José, Costa Rica’s capital city. All volunteer locations will be within easy access from your accommodation by bus.

Costa Rica
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica is one of the smaller countries in the region but has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with National Parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand.

Free Time
The free time you have will depend on your agreed schedule. During your free time, volunteers are welcome to use the Internet and telephone facilities at the volunteer centre, the cafeteria, where there is free coffee & fruit juice, and use of travel information & reservation desk. You will also have the chance to participate in daily salsa classes, cooking classes, and conversation classes. The country’s capital of San José has many museums, theatres, international restaurants, discotheques and bars.

Getting there

You will need to arrange flights into Alajuela to the Juan Santamaria International Airport. We strongly advise that you arrange your flights to arrive on the Sunday before your project starts. Upon arrival you will be met by a project representative at the airport and transferred to your accommodation.
