Costa Rica Schools and Day Care Centres

Your role as a volunteer will be varied and flexible and there will be the opportunity for you to use your own creativity to develop activities for the children to partake in.

Volunteer Role

The work you will undertake as a volunteer will vary but essentially you will be expected to organise and plan activities for the children that you feel are suitable. The volunteer centre will provide you with assistance, suggestions and educational materials to help you plan the activities. Generally volunteers are responsible for the following:

Arranging educational games and activities
Teaching children arts and crafts
Organising sports and other physical activities
Playing with the children

Here are some suggested activities and outdoor games that you can do when working with the children: making bookmarks, musical instruments, mosaics, making puppets, charades, races amongst the children and hopscotch.

You will have the choice to volunteer at one of the following schools or day care centres:

Teaching English Programme in Montezuma
San Agustín de Guápiles Primary School
Musical Kindergarten
Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Elementary School
Ana Frank Day Care Centre
Casa del niño Day Care Centre

Upon booking this programme we will require you to list your top two preferences in regards to your volunteer placement. Upon arrival into Costa Rica our volunteer coordinator will take you to see the various schools and day care centers allowing you to make your final choice.

Location

The schools and day care centres are mainly located in and around San José, Costa Rica’s capital city. There are however a few options located further a field if you would like to experience other parts of Costa Rica.

Accommodation and Meals

You will be staying with a Costa Rican host family who will have been carefully selected to ensure that you are in clean, comfortable and safe accommodation. Your host family will provide you with a private bedroom and 2 meals per day.

Programme Summary:
You will assist teachers in classrooms, teaching and playing with the children. Giving them the attention they deserve and rarely receive.
