Why
learn Spanish in Costa Rica?
A basic knowledge of Spanish is essential for any person who wishes to travel in Central or South America. This is true for all countries, whether they are developed like Argentina or are less developed like Bolivia. However, if you wish to volunteer on a social placement too, a good comprehension of the language would be required in order to interact with the local people.

Where do you stay in Costa Rica?
We use host families in order to make these programmes a full cultural experience. Your Spanish will improve fast by living with a local family, as there are so many opportunities to practise what you have learnt. You have a single room but will share family meals and gatherings, traditional dishes, and much more. Our families are varied, for example, your family could be a mother whose children have already left their home, but she enjoys the company of foreign guests.

Why work and travel Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is an excellent starting point for volunteer work and travel in Latin America. Located in the heart of Central America, you can either travel south to countries like Ecuador in South America or you can head North to Guatemala.

Costa Rica has so much to offer gap year students and backpackers because there is so much natural diversity. It is also one of the safest places to work and travel in Latin America. Some of the places you can visit are:

  1. Nicoya Peninsula for its popular beaches
  2. Monteverde Reserve - one of Costa Rica's best National Parks
  3. Arenal Volcano

Costa Rica is one of the cheapest countries in Latin America to do volunteer work and travel. You can get by on just a few pounds a day, however, when doing the typical backpacker trips, these can be quite expensive. The country is so diverse and unique, that it is a must visit country when taking a gap year to Central America.

Why volunteer in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Because of its coast lines and beautiful eco-systems, there are excellent opportunities to volunteer with wildlife in Central America with many different animal conservation projects, which need volunteer assistance. Volunteering is a well-established concept, with Costa Rica being one of the original eco-tourist destinations. Previous volunteers have all played a vital role at the projects they have taken part in.
