Programme Location
Playa Tamarindo, Pacific Coast, Costa Rica

Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a beautiful, biologically diverse country. Located in Central America, it has everything to offer the intrepid traveller; with rainforests, white sandy coastlines, volcanoes and more, over 25% of the country is protected through their National preserve system. In addition to this, Costa Rica forms less than 0.1% of the world’s landmass, but it has 5% of the overall biodiversity.

Surfing
The Pacific Coast of Costa Rica offers some of the best surf spots in the whole of Central America and can boast some of the top breaks in the world. The waters are never flat here and there are a variety of different beaches and reefs of all surf levels to choose from, making Costa Rica one of the prime locations anywhere to learn to surf or advance your skills. In addition to the quality of surf, the Pacific coastline in Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, numerous caves and countless waterfalls, all that can be explored in your free time.

Playa Tamarindo is no exception, with average wave sizes of 3 to 5 feet – the perfect size to practise getting up onto your board. It is considered to be one of the most consistent surf spots in the whole of Costa Rica, so by the end of your programme, you should expect to be riding waves without direction and you will probably want to buy your own board!

Free Time
San Jose
San José, the capital of Costa Rica, is situated in the middle of the country making it a convenient location for travelling in Costa Rica. In San José you will find buses that will take you directly to the Atlantic coast, the Pacific coast, the Arenal volcano, Monteverde cloud forest and many other destinations.

Additionally, San José has many social and cultural activities all year-round, including music festivals, concerts at the national theatre, dance clubs and all types of restaurants. The language school is located in a quiet, secure neighbourhood, close to the well-known San Pedro Mall and a variety of restaurants, cinemas, banks and Internet cafes.

Playa Tamarindo
Besides surfing, Tamarindo has so much to offer, from beautiful secluded beaches to lush rainforests. Whether you want to kick back and relax or use your weekends to explore, there are many activities you can join:
    • Scuba diving
    • Canopy tours, and hiking to local waterfalls
    • Snorkeling, sailing and sea kayaking
    • Horseback riding and more.
Getting There
You need to arrange your international flights into San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital. From San Jose, you will be collected by one of our coordinators and taken to your accommodation, before starting your Spanish course on the following Monday.
