Guatemala, in the heart of Central America, is an excellent place to learn Spanish, do volunteer work and travel. With so much history, culture and natural beauty, it is a unique and authentic place to spend some time.
Like all of our language programmes, you have the option of learning Spanish and then adding a volunteering placement of your choice; alternatively, you can just learn Spanish and then travel around Latin America. Learning Spanish in Guatemala should be considered if you wish to travel Central or South America, however, a good knowledge of the language would be essential if you wish to volunteer on a social placement.
The Language SchoolOur Guatemala Language School opened in 2001 in a beautiful remodelled colonial home located just a few blocks from the Central Park of Antigua. As well as teaching Spanish to help gap trip students work and travel Latin America, the language school also organises activities such as:
- Orientation walk of Antigua
- Visits to local areas of interest, like Museums, Plantations and Farms
- Visits to neighbouring (indigenous) villages
- Salsa classes, cultural classes, parties, fiestas and sports days
- Spanish language videos & movies
- Extra Guatemala volunteer options
LocationWe have 2 schools – one in the town of Antigua, and the other in Jocotenango (2kms from Antigua) Both are located approximately 45 mins from Guatemala City, the capital. You may choose which school to attend.
Accommodation and Meals
Students stay with our host families which greatly improves Spanish skills. The families are all known personally by our project staff. You'll be treated as one of the family, given your own room, key & 3 meals a day.
