Desert Elephant Conservation Namibia
This African elephant wildlife conservation project allows you to work with the wildlife and local communities to ensure the safety of the desert elephants in Namibia.
Working as a volunteer you will be part of this really rewarding wildlife conservation project that is vital to the desert elephant populations of Africa.
Volunteer RoleAs a Real wildlife volunteer in Africa, you will focus on two main areas: working with elephants and working with the people of Africa. You will be teaching the farmers how to manage conflicts with elephants and helping them build protection around their vital resources such as water points. You will also assist with the ongoing monitoring and identification work of the elephants themselves in the field, monitoring and tracking their herds in the wild.
In addition to the roles mentioned above, volunteers sometimes create extra water points for the elephants to use so they don't disturb the farmers. Another focal point of the project is helping farmers learn skills to benefit from tourism in the area.
Location
The Desert Elephant Project is one of our Namibia volunteer projects, in Southern Africa. It is based in the north west of the Namib Desert in what is locally known as Damaraland.
