Volunteer Role

Volunteers will be in charge of teaching conversational English to the members of their host family, based on TEFL methods. They will initially identify the level of conversational English that each of the students have. Based on this, they will focus on using a method that best applies for each level: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The exercises will encourage students to perfect pronunciation, improve comprehension and understanding and increase vocabularly.

Volunteers will be teaching their host family for a total of 15 hours a week, Monday to Friday, based around their daily timetable such as work and school etc. The total of 15 hours is divided between the amount of students in the host family. If two members of the family are wanting to learn English, they will each have 7.5 hours of conversational English per week. Weekends and any time during the week when volunteers are not teaching will be free to explore Quito and the surrounding areas.

Teaching Schedule
At the beginning of every week, volunteers will create and schedule a timetable for the week.

On arrival at the host family, the student’s level of conversational English will be identified based on their previous TEFL knowledge and will be marked on their profile sheet. At the end of the programme volunteers will mark the level where the students are in order to assist the next volunteer to arrive.
