Location
Ecuador: Machalilla National Park and Isla del Plata, as well as educational projects based in Quito.

Ecuador
Often referred to as “the land of eternal spring” Ecuador is among our most popular destinations and a fantastic country for the more adventurous traveller. It is the smallest of the Andean nations and one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world.

The breathtaking Andean mountain chain, home to the highest active volcano in the world separates the exotic pacific beaches to the west and the virtually impenetrable Amazon Jungle to the east. It has a rich cultural history, outstanding natural beauty and warm and friendly inhabitants, which combine to make Ecuador one of South America’s most alluring destinations.

Weather
In Ecuador the seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. In May and June, autumn brings warm days and cool nights. Some say the climate is at its best at this time of year in most parts of the country. July marks the beginning of winter in Ecuador, when temperatures vary from around 36 degrees Fahrenheit overnight to 70-80 degrees at midday.

Climate is subject to altitude: On the Coast and in the Amazon, the weather is warmer than in
the mountains. The weather in the Amazon is often very humid.

Free Time
You should make the most of your free time by exploring your surroundings and breathing in the natural beauty all around you. Machalilla National Park holds various attractions to the visitor. You may want to travel to Isla la Plata off the coast of Puerto López, visit Los Frailes Beach, or explore the archaeological site of AguaBlanca, Salango, and the fantastic beaches all around the area. Or why not develop your diving skills further, and enhance your knowledge of the marine life you are working to protect?

Getting There
You will need to arrange your international flight into Quito airport where you will be met by a representative and transferred to a hostel. The following day there will be a full orientation and you will then take a short flight and bus ride to the project location.
