Volunteer Project: Bolivia Orphanage Volunteer

Hi Matt,

I have moved in to the volunteer apartment and am just about to head to the Joy Ride cafe for a few beers. I was up in cafe El Mirador this afternoon - so pretty up there. Went to Cal Orkey to see the dinosaur prints yesterday afternoon which were fascinating. To think that they have been there undiscovered for more than 45 million years is incredible.

Next weekend I am off to Potosi - really looking forward to that and going down the silver mines will be fun. Staying for two nights.

Start my volunteer work tomorrow morning which I am so excited about. I am not working in the orphanage but have chosen instead to work in a guarderia out in Villa Margarita where the children are so incredibly poor. I hope to be able to write an article for you to put on your website when I get home so you can encourage people to work in these day care centres. They are in desperate need of volunteers.
There are no volunteers where I am going and the children are just so beautiful. So, so poor though it breaks your heart. The day care centre belongs to a company called 'Casa de mujer Salayari Warmi' (I think that is how it is spelt.) If it was not for this centre the children would more than likely not be fed. Their fathers work all day and their mothers are more or less incapable of looking after them. It is so sad and heartbreaking but at least I will be able to give them what they need for 4 weeks - love, affection and a building of their self-esteem. It is going to be so rewarding. There are few toys and no books so I am going to go to the market and buy them the things they need once I have spent a few days there and have worked out what they are most in need of.

Hope all is well with you and I will email you again once I have got in to the swing of volunteering.

Best wishes
Elizabeth
