Project: Monkey Rehabilitation Conservation South Africa

How was your experience in Africa?
 |
‘'Amazing' - ‘'Out of this world' - ‘'Unreal' - ‘'A great adventure' - ‘'A massive confidence builder' - ‘'One of the best ways to make new friends'"
These are all words I would use to describe my experiences!
I learnt about many aspects of animal husbandry, treatment and their natural habitat, instincts and personalities in a way that I could never experience in the UK. The project made it possible for me to learn first hand about South Africa, its people and their ideals, its geography and its wildlife. |
What did you think of the Project?
The project is an ideal way to learn new skills, make new friends from all over the world and learn more about ones self.
The excursions and sights coupled with the experiences with the animals at the rehabilitation centre will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I was made to feel at home, comfortable, well looked after and the family were great to get on with. I felt that the volunteers were never pressured into doing things, which they didn't want to do and were not prevented from doing tasks and activities that they did. |

What was the accommodation like? I found the accommodation to be clean, spacious, safe and well lit.
There was ample storage for each of us. The position and layout was convenient with showers, toilets, dormitory and kitchen area all situated around a central seating area which makes it really sociable.
The rehabilitation centre where all the work is carried out is approximately 5 minutes walk, which means work and rest seems separated.
There is also a swimming pool not far from the dormitories and a lake which is beautiful to sit by and relax when there is time.

Were you pleased you went with Real Gap? I felt that Real Gap provided me with all the information that I needed and more.
I also decided to travel on after my placement and Real Gap helped me organise that too. I was given loads of options and loads of opinions on what to do so I could choose something that was suitable for me.
Thank you.
