Expedition Tanzania

If one of your main reasons for visiting Africa is its unique wildlife then an expedition to Tanzania is ideal. If you go on a Tanzania expedition you will be visiting one of the best countries in Africa to view wildlife. You are more or less guaranteed to see all of the ‘Big Five' animals of Africa (rhino, lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo) on an expedition to Tanzania in some of the continent's most renowned game reserves. Although the wildlife is probably the main attraction for most people on an expedition to Tanzania there are still loads of other highlights to enjoy in this beautiful country - including the culture of the indigenous Maasai tribes-people, the exotic spice island of Zanzibar and the beautiful sight of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
Real Gap's Gap Year Expedition - Tanzania programme is a unique expedition to Tanzania that has been carefully put together to combine all the usual ‘must see' sights of Tanzania with more adventurous travel ‘off the beaten track.' The aim of this Tanzania expedition is to provide travellers with a much more ‘real' Tanzanian experience than most trips offer. Our ‘Expedition Tanzania' page takes a look at just some of the highlights you will experience if you take a gap year expedition to Tanzania with Real Gap.
Expedition Tanzania - Go wild on a Tanzania expedition!
No Africa expedition to Tanzania would be complete without spending some quality time exploring Tanzania's world renowned game reserves. One of the highlights of Real Gap's expedition to Tanzania is a four day safari in the 13,000 square kilometre Ruaha National Park. On this section of the ‘Expedition Tanzania' programme it's possible to see all of the ‘big five' in their natural habitat. Night times are also memorable in Ruaha on an expedition to Tanzania as you sleep in bungalows on the banks of the beautiful Ruaha River - making for an atmospheric night time experience full of strange noises in the distance!
Another highlight of the Tanzania Expedition is a trip to the Ngorongoro Crater - a unique ecosystem and game reserve located inside the top half of what was once an ancient volcano. The views from the top of the crater simply take your breath away and it's awe-inspiring to think that the area below you is home to hundreds of species of wildlife.
Expedition Tanzania - Learn a new language on a Tanzania expedition
One of the best ways to get the most out of the experience on a Tanzania gap year expedition is by learning some of the language. If you can speak some of the language on a Tanzania expedition, your efforts are greatly appreciated by the local people you meet and you will generally have more fun and get to know them better. With this in mind Real Gap's ‘Expedition Tanzania' programmes includes lessons in Swahili and Maasai.
Expedition Tanzania - Life's a beach on a Tanzania expedition!
One of the factors that makes going on an expedition to Tanzania such a fun gap year choice is that a Tanzania expedition is the location of some of Africa's best beaches. If you are getting up at the crack of dawn to go on safari on some of the days on an expedition to Tanzania you also need to allocate some time for relaxation. The ‘Expedition Tanzania' base camp is located at Mbezi beach (approximately 8 miles from Dar es Salaam) and the expedition to Tanzania also includes a trip to the beautiful Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar in a traditional Dhow boat - so there is ample opportunity to spend time simply chilling out on a beach.
Expedition Tanzania - Maasai Culture
One of the things that makes the ‘Expedition Tanzania' programme so exciting and different from other African trips is the fact that the Tanzania expedition includes the unique privilege of being able to spend a full five weeks living with a Maasai tribal community in the stunning setting of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Expedition Tanzania - Give something back on a Tanzania expedition
As with all of Real Gap's programmes the ‘Expedition Tanzania' programme provides the opportunity to give something back to some of the people you encounter on a Tanzania expedition by getting involved with a rewarding volunteer project - working either in local school or orphanage.
