Gap Year Brochure
Venezuela is one of South America's most diverse and beautiful countries and if you go on an expedition to Venezuela on your gap year or career break you are certain to return home with some unforgettable memories. Real Gap's ‘Gap Year Expedition - Venezuela' programme has been carefully put together to combine some of Venezuela's most famous sights with more adventurous travel ‘off the beaten track.' Our ‘Expedition Venezuela' page takes a look at some of the programme's highlights.

Expedition Venezuela - Beach life

Whilst adventure travel is sometimes all about pushing yourself to the limit in search of unique experiences it should also be fun and relaxing. At the end of the day you are going on an expedition to Venezuela in order to have a good time - not to participate in some kind of endurance test. One of the great things about going on an expedition to Venezuela is that Venezuela has more Caribbean coastline than any other country. This means that on an expedition to Venezuela you can experience and enjoy mile upon mile of pristine Caribbean beaches. Real Gap's ‘Expedition Venezuela' programme is based in the picturesque town of Chichiriviche in the Morrocoy National Park area of northwest Venezuela. Morrocoy's incredible flora and fauna is protected both on land and sea and the first two weeks of the Venezuela Expedition provides ample opportunity to experience the area's rich wildlife. The ‘Expedition Venezuela' base camp is located just three minutes from the beach and the activities on offer include sea-kayaking, snorkelling and water-skiing.

Expedition Venezuela - Learn Spanish

If you are travelling around remote areas of Venezuela, or anywhere in South America for that matter, you will gain far more from the experience if you can speak some of the language. With this in mind the Venezuela gap year expedition programme includes Spanish tuition. The classes are a lot of fun and the first two weeks of learning are in the stunning setting of the Morrocoy Park Caribbean beaches so, while you will be taxing your brain on your expedition to Venezuela, the learning experience definitely shouldn't be too stressful!

Expedition Venezuela - See the essential Venezuela

As well as venturing off the beaten track if you travel on Real Gap's expedition to Venezuela you will also visit Venezuela's essential sights. For example a highlight of any expedition to Venezuela is a visit to the incredible Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world - an amazing 16 times higher than Niagara Falls!

Expedition Venezuela - Jungle Experience

For many people an essential part of travel to Venezuela is experiencing life in the jungle. Real Gap's ‘Expedition Venezuela' programme includes a kayaking trip along the incredible Orinoco Delta. This section of the expedition to Venezuela provides the opportunity to explore some of the country's unique wildlife including river dolphins, parrots, caimans, piranhas and the world's largest snake - the anaconda! The Orinoco Delta section of the ‘Expedition Venezuela' also gives you the chance to experience indigenous Indian culture by spending time with the local Warao tribes-people.

Expedition Venezuela - Trek in the mountains

For the more intrepid traveller, one of the best trekking opportunities on an expedition to Venezuela is the six-day climb to the summit of the awe-inspiring Roraima Mountain. The ‘table-top' Roraima Mountain is commonly described as resembling a lunar landscape and is said to have inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's ‘Lost World.'

Expedition Venezuela - Volunteer

One of the best ways to get to know local people and fully experience the culture on a gap year expedition to Venezuela is by getting involved with a rewarding volunteer project. With Real Gap's ‘Expedition Venezuela' programme you can choose from a variety of volunteer positions - from working with street children to caring for animals.
