Gap Year Expedition - India
The India Expedition is perfect if you are looking to do an adventure expedition in Asia. Like Real Gap's other volunteer expeditions abroad, it combines travel, adventure and volunteer work, so the programme is full of rewarding experiences and action!
The India ExpeditionThe India Expedition begins in Delhi with all its magnificent contrasts between old and new India. You will visit Gandhi´s memorial, India gate, and try out some of their famous markets. After Delhi it is onto Haridwar and the fascinating yoga city, Rishikesh. In Haridwar, one of India's most holy cities, you'll enjoy the outstanding atmosphere on the steps (ghats) to the holy Ganges. The journey continues to the pink city of Jaipur, a safari at a tiger reserve and then on to Agra, to see the Taj Mahal's outstanding beauty!
The Volunteer Work
The volunteer work takes place in a small village near the old colonial city of Darjeeling in West Bengal. Here, the group becomes part of the community, teaching English to children in local schools and taking part in any local festivals and celebrations.
Volunteers can bring their own skills, resources and ideas to aid their teaching, with suggestions for extra curricular activities welcomed.
Expedition Location
The expedition begins in Delhi and then moves onto Haridwar, Rishikesh, Jaipur, Agra and finally Darjeeling for the volunteer phase.
