Tanzania

Tanzania is a country rich in culture and traditions. With its magnificent world class National Parks offering superb wildlife safaris in the Serengetti and Ngorongoro Crater, its Indian Ocean coastline, tropical beaches of Zanzibar Island, Mt Kilimanjaro (the tallest mountain in Africa) and its warm climate, it is no wonder that Tanzania is such a popular destination for tourists.

Yet Tanzania remains a very poor country, which has not enjoyed the same economic growth as Kenya and hence their infrastructure is much less developed. Thus volunteers are still needed to help develop specific projects, which will further benefit the local communities.

Free Time
During the expedition you will have most of weekends free and will be able to explore your surrounding areas. When in Dar Es Salaam, being so close to Zanzibar Spice Island, beautiful beaches and exciting Game Reserves, you will have plenty to entertain you in your free time. And if that’s not enough, then Dar Es Salaam is an exciting and interesting place to explore and to spend your money in the many shops and craft markets.

Up in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro you will also have loads to occupy you, not least spending quality time with the Maasai people. For excursions in this area, or in fact wherever you are on your expedition, please feel free to ask the project leaders who will happily provide you with plenty of ideas to make the most of your surroundings!

Tours After Your Project
Being so close to Dar Es Salaam means that you are at a major starting point for tours through Africa. Why not join an overland tour after your volunteer project and further explore the amazing sights that Africa has to offer you. From 3-day mini trips to a mammoth 56-day epic, we have the perfect tour to suit your needs and leave you with unforgettable memories of Africa. Please speak to the Africa team for further details.

Getting there
You will need to arrange your flights to Dar Es Salaam International Airport for the start date of your project. Upon arrival in Tanzania you will be met at the airport by one of the expedition leaders and be transferred to the Beach House on the outskirts of Dar Es Salaam to meet your fellow team mates. You will also be flying out of Dar Es Salaam Airport.
