24 Week Programme Outline

Weeks 1 & 2: Base Camp
The first two weeks will be spent socialising and learning about the culture of Venezuela. You will learn to kayak and to speak your first words of Spanish. Before the tuition begins you will be placed in groups depending on your level of Spanish. You will also get familiar with the region and there will be excursions to the surrounding islands, waterfalls and villages.

You will experience the stunning nature and the rich wildlife in the Morrocoy National Park by sea kayak. Our base in Chichiriviche is located only 3 minutes from the beach, so you can go swimming, snorkeling, waterskiing or just hanging out on the beach.

Week 3: Los Llanos
We explore this wildlife-rich area, visit the ranches, go horseback riding and of course search for the massive snake: the anaconda. Other species of wildlife in this bio-diverse region include freshwater dolphins, monkeys and piranhas.

Weeks 4 & 5: Orinoco Delta
This is where the famous Warao Indians reside in their pile-built houses. They survive primarily on fishing and from what they can find in the jungle. The delta consists of approximately 30 000 square meters of waterways and jungle and is the second largest delta behind the Amazon. You will visit the various tribes in the area and explore the amazing wildlife: parrots, river dolphins, anacondas, piranhas, caimans and much more. The Delta will be explored by kayak, this way the natives and wildlife is disturbed as little as possible.

Week 6: Base Camp
Spanish tuition, beach volley, chilling in camp or on the beach. Access to laundry, e-mail etc.

Weeks 7 & 8: La Gran Sabana
We trek to the top of the plate-shaped mountain of Roraima which is known for its unique flora: Orchids and carnivorous plants. The top of the mountain is described as a lunar landscape with crystals, hot springs and peculiar rock formations. The trek itself takes about 5-6 days. In the Gran Sabana area we visit Indians, waterfalls and prepare for Roraima.

Weeks 9 - 12: Volunteer Work or 3rd Month Activity Option
A month where you work on volunteer project or join an activity of your choice.

Weeks 13 - 20: Volunteer work around Venezuela

You can choose 2 different projects in Venezuela: working with animals in a national park, working with street kids, teaching English in schools, assisting in an adventure camp or working in a hotel, restaurant or bar. You can choose to live in the camp or with a host family depending on the project.

Weeks 21 & 22: Canima and Angel Falls
During these 2 weeks you will trek to Canaima, with visits to Pemon villages. Canoe trip to Angel Falls. Trekking and trips to lots of waterfalls. The trip to Angel Falls is optional and will cost approx. $75 from Canaima.

Weeks 23 & 24: Base Campweeks back at camp
