Gap Year Projects
It's a good idea if you are planning a year out to put together a ‘wish list' of gap year projects you would like to achieve in your time away. Setting yourself some gap year projects before you go provides your year out with some structure and also helps to ensure that you get everything you want out of your gap year or career break. There are all kinds of gap year projects you can consider.
Our Gap year projects' page takes a look at some of the possibilities.
Gap year projects - Live the dream!
One of the most fun gap year projects you can do is compile a list of places you have always dreamed of going. For example you may always have wanted to visit the Taj Mahal, dive at the Great Barrier Reef or trek the Inca Trail in Peru. Once you have done this, the aim of your gap year project is to set about fulfilling all of your ambitions by visiting at least the top three places on your list when you are away. This type of gap year project is what taking a year out is all about!
Gap year projects - Volunteer
Some of the most rewarding gap year projects are those that involve working as a volunteer abroad. Real Gap has loads of volunteer gap year projects throughout the world you could get involved with - from caring for endangered wildlife to helping out in an orphanage. Volunteer gap year projects give you the chance to give something back to some of the countries you visit on a year out and are also an ideal opportunity to get to know a place and its people on a far more intimate level. A great way to start any volunteer gap year projects is to raise some sponsorship money before you go (see the ‘Gap year fundraising, saving for a gap year' for ideas on how to go about this).
Gap year projects - Learn a new language
An excellent gap year project you can set yourself is to learn a new language while you are away. Real Gap can help arrange suitable language schools in China and Japan and throughout Latin America. Learning a new language is a great gap year project in many ways - you will meet other like-minded backpackers, being able to speak some of the language makes for a far better and rewarding travel experience and it looks good on your CV too.
Gap year projects - Teach English
If you are after a challenging gap year project that is also fun and rewarding then why not consider teaching English while you are away? Teaching English is one of the most flexible gap year projects in that you can do it throughout the world - either as a volunteer or, (in China and Japan), as paid work.
If you would like to discuss any gap year project ideas you may have with someone in person then why not give one of Real Gap's team of expert travel advisers a call?
