Gap Year Travel Destinations

Gap year travel destinations - Australasia
If you are planning on getting some paid work abroad then two of the best gap year travel destinations are undoubtedly Australia and New Zealand. Other than being excellent places to boost your income (particularly if you are on a round the world trip) they are also fantastic gap year travel destinations in their own right. Australia is renowned for its laidback lifestyle, superb beaches, lively cities, sunny weather and incredible natural wonders (including Uluru - or Ayer's Rock - and the Great Barrier Reef).
If you are in to the outdoor life then New Zealand should definitely be towards the top of your list of potential gap year travel destinations. New Zealand boasts some of the world's most beautiful landscapes and is great for trekking and, for that matter, just about any other outdoor pursuit you can think of (a visit to the adventure capital of Queenstown is an absolute must). Numerous gap year travel destinations have some fantastic beaches - and those on the Pacific tropical island paradise of Fiji are up there with the best of them. If you visit Australasia on a gap year Fiji is easy to fit in as a stopover en route and is a great place to chill out.
Gap year travel destinations - Africa
If you are passionate about wildlife one of the best gap year travel destinations is Africa. All of Real Gap's gap year travel destinations in the region provide ample opportunity to enjoy Africa's unique wildlife (either as a volunteer or in your spare time) and if you would like to get involved with a rewarding people-based volunteer project there is a wide range of these in Africa too.

Gap year travel destinations - Asia
If you are on a tight budget then, in terms of cost of living, some of the best gap year travel destinations are in Asia (with Japan being the main exception). The range of gap year travel destinations in Asia is incredibly diverse, and the wide variety of Real Gap's Asian programmes reflects this. It is possible to do anything from caring for endangered orang-utans in Borneo to trekking in the Himalayan region of India. If you would like to earn money then the two gap year travel destinations to head to in Asia are China and Japan.

Latin America offers a wide range of amazing gap year travel destinations - from classic South American countries such as Peru to the wildlife lovers' paradise of Ecuador's Galapagos Islands.
